Overview

Endeavor Health is seeking a Histology Technician to join their team at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois. This part-time role involves performing various tissue specimen processing tasks, ensuring accuracy and reliability in histological slides, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to aid in diagnosis.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct tissue specimen processing including receiving, accessioning, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting on slides.
  • Adhere to quality control measures and protocols to ensure the reliability of histological slides.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as microscopes and tissue processors.
  • Examine slides for tissue abnormalities and cellular structures.
  • Perform various staining techniques, including H&E staining and immunohistochemistry.
  • Maintain detailed records of specimen processing and quality control data.
  • Monitor and restock laboratory supplies to ensure workflow.
  • Follow safety protocols in handling hazardous materials and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory staff to discuss findings and ensure timely reporting of results.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histotechnician (HT) from ASCP BOC
  • 1 year of experience in a Histology laboratory
  • Experience with microtomy and staining techniques
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as Leica Bond and H&E Stainers
