Job Description

Overview

The High School Special Education Teacher at Urban Dove Team Charter School IV plays a crucial role in supporting at-risk students through a competency-based curriculum. This position involves co-teaching and collaborating in an Inclusive Co-Teaching (ICT) environment, focusing on the individual needs and success of each student, particularly those with IEPs and MLLs.

Key responsibilities

  • Co-teach five 55-minute classes
  • Maintain an organized classroom environment that promotes student independence
  • Plan and implement student-centered instruction
  • Create and implement Specially Designed Instruction (SDI)
  • Write effective IEPs and manage caseloads
  • Communicate with stakeholders regarding IEP meetings
  • Collaborate with various teams to implement individualized educational plans
  • Track student progress using data sources
  • Manage student behavior using restorative practices
  • Attend a summer orientation and professional development series

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree preferred
  • New York State Certification
  • Experience in a Transfer School preferred
  • Proficiency in Google Applications
  • Knowledgeable in the use of SESIS
  • Ability to create multi-tiered classroom structures and behavior plans
  • Strong communication skills and work ethic
  • Commitment to teamwork, leadership, and a strength-based approach
