Overview

Urban Dove Team Charter School IV is seeking a dedicated High School Special Education Teacher who will engage with at-risk students through a dynamic, data-driven, and student-paced curriculum. The role emphasizes collaboration in an Inclusive Co-Teaching environment and aims to empower students to overcome challenges and excel academically.

Key responsibilities

  • Co-teach five 55-minute classes in an Inclusive Co-Teaching (ICT) environment
  • Maintain an organized classroom that promotes student thinking and independence
  • Plan and implement student-centered instruction that appeals to multiple learning styles
  • Create and implement Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) tailored to individual student needs
  • Write effective IEPs and maintain systems for IEP reports
  • Communicate with stakeholders regarding IEP meetings and participate as needed
  • Track and discuss student progress using various data sources
  • Manage student behavior with restorative practices and school-wide PBIS
  • Develop classroom routines and modify expectations based on behavioral needs
  • Attend a 3-week summer orientation and professional development series
  • Fulfill broader school roles, including mentoring and committee involvement

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
  • New York State Certification
  • Experience in a Transfer School preferred
  • Proficiency in Google Applications and knowledge of SESIS preferred
  • Ability to create multi-tiered classroom structures and behavior plans
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and deliver high-quality work
  • Commitment to the mission and core values of Teamwork, Leadership, and Communication
  • Experience using restorative practices and a strength-based youth development approach
  • Strong work ethic and excellent communication skills
  • Passion for serving at-risk youth
