Job Description

Overview

The High School Special Education Teacher at Urban Dove Team Charter School III will be an essential part of a dynamic team dedicated to supporting at-risk students through a competency-based curriculum. This role emphasizes flexibility, leadership, and a strong commitment to fostering student success by providing the necessary tools and support for academic achievement.

Key responsibilities

  • Co-teach five 55-minute classes
  • Collaborate in an Inclusive Co-Teaching (ICT) environment
  • Apply the SDI framework to support students with special needs
  • Manage student behavior using restorative practices and school-wide PBIS
  • Develop and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Track and discuss student progress, setting goals for continued growth
  • Design and oversee Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Engage in IEP collaboration, grade-level teamwork, and school events
  • Regularly review student data through an electronic management system
  • Attend a 3-week summer orientation and professional development series
  • Fulfill broader school roles, including mentoring and committee involvement

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree preferred
  • New York State Certification
  • Experience in a Transfer School preferred
  • Proficiency in Google Applications
  • Knowledgeable in the use of SESIS preferred
  • Ability to create multi-tiered classroom structures and behavior plans
  • Strong ability to multi-task and deliver high quality work

  • Ability to function well as part of a team and work independently
