Job Description

Overview

The High School Special Education Teacher at Urban Dove Team Charter School III is responsible for supporting the diverse needs of at-risk students through a student-paced, competency-based curriculum. Teachers will work in an inclusive co-teaching environment, employing personalized and data-driven instruction to foster academic growth and student success.

Key responsibilities

  • Co-teach five 55-minute classes
  • Collaborate in an Inclusive Co-Teaching (ICT) environment
  • Apply the SDI framework to support students with special needs
  • Manage student behavior using restorative practices and school-wide PBIS
  • Collaborate with various teams to craft individualized learning plans
  • Track and discuss student progress, setting goals for continued growth
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Design and oversee Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Engage in IEP collaboration and grade-level teamwork
  • Regularly review student data through an electronic management system
  • Attend a 3-week summer orientation and professional development series
  • Fulfill broader school roles, including mentoring and committee involvement

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree preferred
  • New York State Certification
  • Experience in a Transfer School preferred
  • Proficiency in Google Applications preferred
  • Knowledgeable in the use of SESIS preferred
  • Ability to create multi-tiered classroom structures and behavior plans
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Commitment to restorative practices and a youth development approach
  • Team-oriented with strong work ethic and communication skills
  • Passion for serving at-risk youth
