Job Description

Overview

The High School Special Education Teacher at Urban Dove Team Charter School IV is responsible for delivering a student-centered, competency-based curriculum tailored to at-risk students. This role emphasizes collaboration within an inclusive co-teaching environment, as well as the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) to support student success.

Key responsibilities

  • Co-teach five 55-minute classes
  • Collaborate in an Inclusive Co-Teaching (ICT) environment
  • Maintain an organized classroom that promotes student learning and independence
  • Plan and implement student-centered instruction for various learning styles
  • Create and implement Specially Designed Instruction (SDI)
  • Write effective IEPs and maintain systems for IEP reports
  • Communicate with stakeholders about IEP meetings
  • Use data sources to track and discuss student progress
  • Manage student behavior and implement behavior plans
  • Attend summer orientation and professional development sessions

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree preferred
  • New York State Certification
  • Experience in a Transfer School preferred
  • Proficiency in Google Applications
  • Experience using SESIS
  • Ability to create multi-tiered classroom structures
  • Strong communication skills
  • Team-oriented with a strong work ethic
  • Commitment to restorative practices and youth development
