Overview

St. Louis County, Minnesota is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to perform skilled mechanical work, including diagnosing and repairing light, medium, and heavy equipment at the Richard H. Hansen Public Works and Transportation Complex in Duluth. This role involves both field and shop work and requires the ability to handle physically demanding tasks.

Key responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair trucks and heavy equipment
  • Perform maintenance on light, medium, and heavy equipment
  • Work under the direction of supervisory staff in both field and shop environments
  • Utilize critical decision-making skills and maintain organization in a multitasking environment

Required skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational training in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment mechanics
  • Three years of full-time experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or equivalent training
  • Valid Class 'D' driver's license with the ability to obtain a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License
  • MN DOT Commercial Vehicle Inspector certification within twelve months of employment
  • Mechanical diagnostics, heavy equipment repair, and vehicle maintenance
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
