Job Description

Overview

Rocket Lab is seeking a Ground Systems Engineer II/Senior - Fluids to join their team in Wattsville, Virginia. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, build, and activation of critical systems that support the Neutron Launch Vehicle, working closely with suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure reliable and efficient ground systems for space missions.

Key responsibilities

  • Design fluid systems including cryogenics, hydraulics, fuels, high-pressure gases, and HVAC
  • Utilize CAD software (specifically NX) for 2D and 3D modeling
  • Perform system sizing and analysis through hand calculation and numerical methods
  • Generate and maintain schematics of fluid/process systems such as P&IDs and connection diagrams
  • Select and develop components, and maintain Bill of Materials (BOMs)
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams
  • Support certification of launch pad fluid systems
  • Contribute to maintenance program development

Required skills

  • ABET accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and design calculation capabilities
  • 2+ years of experience in aerospace or industrial design, testing, or operations
  • Proficiency in CAD software (NX, Solidworks)
  • Knowledge of fluid systems and sizing calculations
  • Ability to mentor entry-level engineers (for Senior Engineer I)
