Overview

Rocket Lab is a leading space company focused on delivering innovative launch services and spacecraft solutions. The Ground Systems Engineer II/Senior - Instrumentation & Controls role involves collaboration with various teams to ensure the reliability and efficiency of ground systems supporting launch operations and testing facilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop, verify, and maintain software for data acquisition and control of field instrumentation
  • Implement closed-loop control algorithms and automated sequences for launch and test operations
  • Configure and troubleshoot PLC systems and networked I/O devices
  • Lead commissioning activities and system integration efforts
  • Develop HMI software and user interfaces for critical systems
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including software designs and operational procedures
  • Ensure ground systems meet safety, regulatory, and operational standards
  • Perform failure investigations and root cause analysis
  • Support maintenance program development

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in software, mechatronics, electrical, or related engineering discipline
  • 2+ years (or 5+ years for Senior role) of experience in software or control systems engineering in aerospace, automotive
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Structured Text, Python, or C++
  • Experience using Git or alternative software version control system
  • Experience with closed-loop control design and tuning
  • Knowledge of signal processing techniques for noisy sensor environments
  • Familiarity with IT networking concepts and industrial communication protocols (UDP, TCP/IP, Modbus, EtherCAT)
  • Basic familiarity with electrical schematics and troubleshooting techniques
