Job Description

Overview

Rocket Lab is seeking a Ground Systems Engineer II - Instrumentation and Controls to join their dynamic team in Huntsville, Alabama. This role involves collaborating with multiple teams to support launch operations and mission-critical infrastructure, ensuring reliable and efficient ground systems are in place for various space missions.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop, verify, and maintain software for data acquisition and control of field instrumentation.
  • Implement closed-loop control algorithms and automate sequences for launch and test operations.
  • Configure and troubleshoot PLC systems and networked I/O devices.
  • Lead commissioning activities and system integration efforts.
  • Develop HMI software and user interfaces for critical systems.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including software system designs and operational procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards.
  • Interact with suppliers and internal teams for seamless operations.
  • Perform failure investigations and root cause analysis.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in software, mechatronics, electrical or related engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience in software or control systems engineering (Ground Systems Engineer II) or 5+ years for Senior ro
  • Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages (Structured Text, Python, or C++).
  • Experience with Git or alternative software version control systems.
  • Knowledge of closed-loop control design and tuning.
  • Experience with signal processing and data conditioning techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of IT networking concepts and industrial communication protocols (UDP, TCP/IP, Modbus, EtherCAT).
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and troubleshooting techniques.
