Overview

Grand River Navigation Company is seeking a Great Lakes Piloting Mate to join their Deck or Engine teams. The role emphasizes safety, efficient operations, and teamwork within a family-oriented environment, supporting both U.S. and Canadian maritime operations on the Great Lakes.

Key responsibilities

  • Safely manning a Navigation Watch
  • Supervising the maintenance and upkeep of the vessel's hull, decks, and superstructure
  • Responsible for the safe loading and unloading of cargo
  • Ensuring vessel lifesaving and firefighting equipment is properly maintained
  • Supervising and directing the vessel's Deck Department
  • Ordering deck supplies
  • Performing other duties assigned by the Vessel Master

Required skills

  • TWIC Card
  • United States Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC)
  • Endorsement as Mate of Unlimited Tonnage
  • First Class Pilot of Vessels of Unlimited Tonnage
  • Unexpired US Passport or Enhanced Driver's License
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Teamwork experience and desire
