Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates is seeking a Geotechnical Lab and Field Summer Intern in State College, PA. The role offers students hands-on experience in construction materials testing and field observation, contributing to various projects under the guidance of experienced staff.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist lab manager in construction materials testing
  • Learn and execute lab tests such as sieve analysis and compressive strength testing
  • Conduct field tasks including observation, sampling, and testing of construction materials
  • Document results accurately
  • Level 2 interns may assist in report creation and soil classification

Required skills

  • Knowledge of construction and geotechnical engineering
  • Experience in soil and concrete testing
  • Ability to lift and move 60-80 pounds
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic mathematical skills and ability to use measurement tools
