Job Description Job Description Job Title: Geotechnical Engineer (EIT) - U.S. Virgin IslandsJob DescriptionWe are seeking a Geotechnical Engineer (EIT) to support a large-scale, FEMA-funded sewer system replacement program in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This field-based role involves continuous drill rig monitoring and real-time soil stratification for deep sewer installations along existing roadways. The engineer will be stationed full-time at the drill rig to ensure accurate subsurface characterization and sampling.ResponsibilitiesBe stationed full-time at an active drill rig (5 days/week, 6-8 hr days).Monitor drilling operations continuously.Stratify soils in real time as cuttings are produced.Identify and log soil changes by depth.Observe groundwater conditions and note anomalies.Ensure borings reach required depths ( 20 ft).Act as the engineer-in-charge at the rig, not a passive observer.Collect representative soil samples during drilling.Manage bulk samples and coordinate off-island shipment of samples.Prepare basic field logs and boring documentation.Essential SkillsBachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.2-4 years of experience in real-time stratifying.Experience monitoring drill rigs in the field.Experience stratifying soils in real time.Ability to work outdoors and in certain weather conditions.Proficient with report writing and communication.Additional Skills & QualificationsPreferred but not required: EIT or GIT certificate.40-Hour HAZWOPER and 8-hour Refreshers.Willingness to travel in order to complete field assignments.Comfortable working independently without daily supervision.Previous experience with drill rig monitoring.Experience in remote or island environments.Work EnvironmentThis role is field-based, requiring the engineer to be at the drill rig daily, monitoring operations and stratifying soils in real time. The engineer will work independently, with on-island support available. The position involves collecting soil samples and managing logistics for sample shipment. The engineer will be provided with a company vehicle, and lodging is covered. This is an independent, boots-on-the-ground role supporting a critical infrastructure replacement program.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Roswell, GA.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.46 - $57.69/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
