Overview

As a Genetics Counselor at Middlesex Health, you will provide risk assessment, education, counseling, and psychological support to individuals and families at risk for hereditary cancer. This role involves collaborating with healthcare professionals and managing genetic testing processes while maintaining patient charting and reporting standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Obtain personal medical and family history through pedigree
  • Assess cancer risk and germline mutation potential
  • Provide education on hereditary cancer syndromes
  • Coordinate and interpret genetic testing results
  • Offer post-test counseling and medical management recommendations
  • Discuss screening and prevention based on family history
  • Maintain timely patient charting and billing submissions
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Plan and direct clinical genetic counseling protocols
  • Monitor program quality and implement improvements
  • Create and oversee programs for patient referrals
  • Participate in cancer-related committees and conferences
  • Supervise Genetic Counseling students
  • Engage in research activities and professional development
  • Provide public education through presentations and materials

Required skills

  • Master's degree in genetic counseling
  • Board certification by the American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC)
