Overview

The General Superintendent of Water Distribution at Fairfax Water provides leadership and operational oversight across multiple water distribution maintenance facilities. This role ensures the safe and reliable operation of the water distribution system while managing staff and aligning with organizational goals.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and operational oversight for water distribution facilities
  • Supervise multiple distribution crews and oversee daily operations
  • Evaluate resource allocation and emergency response efforts
  • Ensure compliance with hydraulic testing and water quality procedures
  • Review work plans, schedules, and technical documents
  • Develop reports on operations, budgets, and resource utilization
  • Support staff development, hiring, and succession planning
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards including OSHA and VDOT
  • Collaborate with internal departments, contractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Lead or assist with major distribution projects and strategic initiatives

Required skills

  • High school diploma or GED required; advanced technical training preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in water distribution or related fields
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of water distribution system operations and regulations
  • Experience with GIS and job work order systems
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare operational reports
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Ability to work flexible hours and respond to emergencies
