The successful candidate will be a commercially minded legal executive with over 15 years of in-house legal leadership experience, particularly in regulated financial services, and a strong background in residential mortgage lending. This role is pivotal in providing strategic and practical guidance to the Board of Directors, Management Team, and business leaders, ensuring the company's operations are in compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and governance standards. The General Counsel will also be responsible for maturing and scaling the legal function, building a high-performing team, and implementing the necessary infrastructure and processes to support the company's growth. Key responsibilities for the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary include leadership of the legal function, enterprise legal risk management, corporate governance, regulatory and compliance advisory, and oversight of external counsel relationships. The ideal candidate will have a law degree, be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario, and possess a deep understanding of banking regulation and governance in Canada. They should be a hands-on leader with a proven track record in team development, strong governance expertise, and the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
