Overview

The General Accountant at LifeMed Alaska is responsible for a range of accounting and administrative tasks which include preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, and analyzing financial data. The role emphasizes promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the company, requiring in-office presence at the Anchorage headquarters.

Key responsibilities

  • Ownership of accounts payable including invoice processing and resolving discrepancies
  • Oversee purchase order system and inventory accounts
  • Accounts payable, credit card, and inventory reconciliation
  • Responsible for cash and check deposits
  • Analyze financial data and trends to identify variances and opportunities for improvement
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial projections
  • Support external audits with documentation and assistance
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes
  • Function as point of contact for visitors and vendors
  • Process and route incoming and outgoing mail
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulations
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • CPA preferred
  • 3 years of experience in an accounting role
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, especially Excel with formulas and pivot tables
  • Experience in accounts payable (A/P) and accounts receivable (A/R)
  • Ability to read and interpret policy manuals and technical procedures
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills
