Overview

Pacific Life is seeking a talented Director of Fundamental Research to join their Fund Advisors team in Newport Beach, California. In this role, the director will be pivotal in generating investment decisions for managed strategies totaling $30 billion, focusing on equity allocations within multi-asset portfolios and contributing to broader investment initiatives across the company.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as a Domestic Equity Portfolio Manager within a Multi-Asset Framework
  • Serve as a U.S. equities specialist, providing differentiated insights across sectors, styles, and factors
  • Conduct industry-leading research to generate investment views
  • Implement investment views through dynamic asset allocation and portfolio positioning
  • Drive asset allocation and portfolio performance for over 15 multi-asset portfolios
  • Manage risk-adjusted returns and ensure benchmark outperformance
  • Participate in investment committee discussions and influence capital allocation decisions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally for investment communication and strategy development
  • Contribute to firm-wide thoughts on market trends and risk management

Required skills

  • 7-10+ years of experience in fundamental research, portfolio management, or trading
  • Deep understanding of U.S. equities and ability to connect micro insights to macro context
  • Proven ability to form and defend investment views
  • Strong understanding of macroeconomics and market cycles
  • Experience with multi-asset frameworks or asset allocation thinking
  • Comfort with data analysis; knowledge of Python or quantitative toolkit is a plus
  • Familiarity with mutual funds, ETFs, or 40-Act structures
  • Clear communication skills for translating complex ideas into actionable insights
