Job Description

Overview

As an FPGA Design Research Engineer at GE Vernova, you will architect and develop advanced embedded systems for real-time controls and industrial communication applications. The role involves leading R&D projects aligned with energy sectors, collaborating with government agencies and universities, and transitioning innovative technologies into GE products.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop FPGA solutions for embedded systems and industrial control systems.
  • Leverage FPGA design tools for development, simulation, testing, and optimization.
  • Shape and pursue external opportunities with U.S. government agencies.
  • Transition real-time embedded controls from lab demonstrations to fieldable prototypes.
  • Collaborate with universities, commercial partners, and others to advance embedded systems.
  • Publish technical papers, file patents, and contribute to open-source communities.

Required skills

  • Ph.D. or Master's/Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with relevant experien
  • 2-5 years of FPGA and SoC design experience using Verilog, SystemVerilog, and VHDL.
  • Experience with Xilinx and/or Intel FPGA devices and tools (e.g., ModelSim, Intel Quartus, Xilinx Vivado).
  • Strong understanding of digital logic design, RTL simulation, synthesis, and timing closure.
  • Knowledge of clock domain crossing techniques and communications interfaces (UART, SPI, Ethernet, PCIe).
  • Proficiency with on-chip debugging tools and functional verification testbenches.
  • Experience using version control systems (Git preferred) and high-level synthesis tools.
  • Strong embedded programming skills in C/C++, Python, etc.
  • Experience with Linux and real-time operating systems.
