Overview

As an FPGA Design Research Engineer at GE Vernova, you will lead the development of cutting-edge embedded systems for real-time controls and industrial communication applications. This role allows you to shape and execute R&D projects in collaboration with U.S. government agencies and transition innovative solutions into GE business products, contributing to the mission of advancing a sustainable energy future.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop FPGA solutions for embedded systems and industrial control systems (ICS)
  • Leverage FPGA design tools to develop, simulate, test, and optimize systems
  • Shape and pursue external opportunities with U.S. government agencies
  • Transition real-time embedded controls and communication systems from lab demonstrations to prototypes
  • Collaborate with universities, industrial consortiums, and commercial partners
  • Publish technical papers and contribute to open-source communities

Required skills

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related disciplines with industry experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with at least 5 years of industry experience
  • 2-5 years of experience in FPGA and SoC design using Verilog, SystemVerilog, VHDL
  • Experience with Xilinx and/or Intel FPGA devices and tools
  • Strong understanding of digital logic design and resource optimization
  • Experience with RTL simulation, synthesis, place-and-route, and timing closure
  • Knowledge of clock domain crossing (CDC) techniques
  • Familiarity with interfaces like UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, PCIe, DDR
  • Experience developing testbenches and functional verification
  • Proficiency with on-chip debugging tools
  • Experience with version control systems (Git preferred)
  • Experience with high-level synthesis (HLS) tools and algorithm-to-hardware workflows
