Overview

FM Approvals is looking for a highly motivated Business Development Advanced Engineer to enhance growth in the Hazardous Location and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) markets. This role involves identifying opportunities, building customer relationships, and supporting product certification initiatives across the Americas.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify and qualify opportunities in targeted industries
  • Develop and execute annual business plans
  • Build and maintain working relationships with team members and customers
  • Travel to customers, events, and trade shows (25% or more)
  • Support the development of technical knowledge and communicate market trends
  • Understand the targeted industries including regulatory landscape and competitors

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or business/marketing
  • 4+ years of experience in product certification, industrial automation, or IIoT
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Location standards (FM, ATEX, IECEx, NEC/CEC, UL, CSA)
  • Experience with IIoT technologies (industrial sensors, connected devices, communication protocols)
  • Strong communication skills (written, phone, in-person, presentations)
  • Analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in business development, technical sales, and marketing
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook
