Job Description

Overview

FM Approvals is seeking a motivated business development advanced engineer to drive growth in the Hazardous Location and Industrial Internet of Things (IioT) markets. This role involves identifying opportunities, customer engagement, and supporting product certification initiatives across the Americas.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify and qualify opportunities in targeted industries
  • Develop and execute annual business plans
  • Build and maintain relationships with team members, customers, and member companies
  • Overnight travel to customers, events, and trade shows (typically 25% or more)
  • Support development of technical knowledge and communication of market trends
  • Maintain understanding of targeted industries, regulations, competitors, challenges, and opportunities

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or business/marketing
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in product certification, industrial automation, IioT, or engineering roles
  • Working knowledge of Hazardous Location standards such as FM, ATEX, IECEx, NEC/CEC, UL, or CSA
  • Experience with IioT technologies including industrial sensors, connected devices, and communication protocols
  • Strong communication skills (written, phone, in-person, presentations)
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Moderate proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook
