Overview

FM Approvals is looking for a motivated Business Development Advanced Engineer to drive growth in the Hazardous Location and Industrial Internet of Things (IioT) markets. This role involves identifying opportunities, developing business plans, and enhancing customer relationships while supporting product certification initiatives across the Americas.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify and qualify opportunities in targeted industries
  • Develop and execute annual business plans
  • Build and maintain relationships with team members, customers, and member companies
  • Overnight travel to customers, events, and trade shows (typically 25% or more)
  • Support technical knowledge development and market trend communication
  • Maintain understanding of targeted industries including regulation landscape and competitors

Required skills

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or business/marketing
  • 4+ years of experience in product certification, industrial automation, IioT, or engineering roles
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Location standards (FM, ATEX, IECEx, NEC/CEC, UL, CSA)
  • Experience with IioT technologies including industrial sensors and communication protocols
  • Strong communication skills (written, phone, in-person, presentations)
  • Customer service skills
  • Analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Moderate proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook
