Job Description

Overview

The Fleet Engineer at Utah Transit Authority serves as an engineering resource across various business units, focusing on commuter rail, light rail, and passenger coach assignments. This role is responsible for developing repair processes, quality assurance standards, and providing technical training to support maintenance operations while managing inspections and evaluating vendor performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Solve complex technical assignments related to transit vehicles
  • Develop and oversee repair, retrofit, and overhaul processes
  • Provide training on maintenance issues to staff at all levels
  • Conduct inspections during manufacturing processes
  • Design quality assurance and preventative maintenance audits
  • Evaluate performance of vendors and suppliers
  • Create cost estimates and budget plans for vehicle retrofits
  • Supervise acceptance tests for newly delivered vehicles
  • Conduct research on advances in vehicle manufacturing

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline related to transit vehicle maintenance
  • Working knowledge of transit vehicle systems (electrical, propulsion, HVAC, etc.)
  • Four years of heavy-duty diesel/electrical maintenance experience
  • Demonstrated communication skills
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting transit vehicle computer systems
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems
  • Valid Utah driver's license
