Overview

The Firefighter Recruit position at West Metro Fire Rescue involves participating in a rigorous training program to develop the necessary skills for a successful career in firefighting. Recruits will learn essential firefighting functions and must demonstrate proficiency in various skills, all under the supervision of Training Division staff while maintaining a probationary status.

Key responsibilities

  • Complete the recruit academy training program successfully
  • Demonstrate proficiency in firefighting skills and knowledge
  • Follow orders and respect the chain of command
  • Adhere to District rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures
  • Maintain personal and team safety and report safety issues
  • Participate in live fire training after meeting prerequisite requirements
  • Maintain physical fitness according to District standards
  • Operate firefighting equipment and vehicles as required
  • Communicate effectively using District radios and written reports
  • Work under stressful conditions and adapt quickly
