Overview

The Fire Controlman role in the U.S. Navy is focused on training Sailors to maintain, operate, and repair sophisticated electronics and computing systems critical for naval operations, including radar and weapon control systems. This position is essential for ensuring the combat readiness of ships like aircraft carriers, cruisers, and destroyers.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as an Electronics Technician (ET) or Fire Controlman (FC) after training based on performance and Navy needs
  • Maintain and repair radar, communication, and navigation equipment as an ET
  • Operate, maintain, and repair fire control radars and weapon control consoles as an FC
  • Troubleshoot complex electronic and electro-mechanical faults
  • Maintain configuration control, documentation, and logs
  • Engage in team-based maintenance and watchstanding afloat and ashore
