Job Description

Overview

The Field Service Engineer, L5 at PwrQ Holdings LLC leads complex field service activities for medium- and high-voltage switchgear systems. This role serves as a technical authority responsible for installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair while ensuring safety and quality on-site. The position also includes mentoring junior engineers and technicians.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead field execution for switchgear installation and service
  • Plan and perform advanced diagnostics for equipment and protection/control issues
  • Execute acceptance, maintenance, and condition-based testing
  • Perform protection relay commissioning and validation
  • Interpret and redline electrical drawings and schematics
  • Ensure compliance with safety requirements and lead safety briefings
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to control wiring and circuits
  • Direct corrective maintenance and repair activities
  • Provide technical leadership during outages and critical events
  • Produce high-quality field service reports and documentation
  • Coordinate with project managers and engineering teams
  • Mentor and supervise junior engineers and technicians
  • Identify upsell opportunities and communicate leads

Required skills

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of field experience with MV/HV switchgear and systems
  • Ability to lead field crews and manage on-site execution
  • Strong knowledge of electrical safety practices (NFPA 70E/OSHA)
  • Experience reading and troubleshooting schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to write clear field reports and maintain documentation
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required
  • Experience with digital protection relays and IEC 61850/GOOSE networks
  • Familiarity with major relay platforms and breaker OEMs
  • Expert-level troubleshooting skills across switchgear domains
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and field reporting tools
