Overview

The Fiber Maintenance Technician at Mercury Fiber is a critical member of the outside plant maintenance team responsible for the installation and repair of fiber optic networks in the Grand Rapids region. The role requires expertise in fiber splicing and a strong focus on safety and quality control.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe environment and ensure all safety standards are met
  • Splice fiber optic cables, including loose tube and ribbon cables
  • Construct proper splice cases with appropriate grounding and sealing
  • Prepare and maintain splicing records, schematics, and diagrams
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair route issues
  • Work in varying weather conditions and environments

Required skills

  • Experience in fiber optic splicing and installation
  • Familiarity with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of FTTH infrastructure and project management tools
  • Proficiency with fiber tools and test equipment like OTDR and fusion splicer
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
