Overview

TDS Telecom is seeking a Fiber Construction Technician to join their Internal Construction Crew in Spokane, WA. This role involves performing general labor associated with outside plant construction for fiber optic networks, including installation and maintenance tasks. The position also offers training opportunities, including the potential to obtain a Class A CDL and various skills related to fiber optic technology and construction safety.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform general construction labor in various weather conditions
  • Transport construction equipment to and from the worksite
  • Assist with the placement of new aerial and buried fiber
  • Use hand tools, cable locators, and test equipment
  • Install enclosures, vaults, pedestals, and handholes
  • Climb poles, ladders, and towers as needed
  • Mark/label fiber optic and/or copper facilities
  • Assist with fiber splicing and repairs
  • Maintain and repair equipment
  • Complete paperwork in a timely manner

Required skills

  • 6+ months experience in customer service or electrical/utility construction
  • Ability to obtain a Class A CDL
  • Experience with horizontal directional drilling preferred
  • Basic understanding of telecommunication products and services
  • Organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to operate vehicles with manual transmissions
  • Knowledge of safety training and protocols
