Job Description

Overview

The Facilities and Maintenance Director is responsible for the strategic oversight and management of facilities and maintenance services for Island Transit. This leadership role involves directing the Facilities Manager and Maintenance Manager, establishing departmental priorities, coordinating with other departments, and interacting with various agencies to resolve issues and enhance operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise the Facilities Manager and Maintenance Manager to oversee vehicle, equipment, and facility maintenance.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and policies related to facilities and maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state grant requirements and safety guidelines.
  • Analyze operational demands and project future service requirements.
  • Establish inventory levels and procurement thresholds for maintenance plans.
  • Conduct inspections for compliance with operational standards and safety requirements.
  • Monitor legislation and industry developments related to public transit and environmental health.
  • Participate in staffing, performance evaluation, and disciplinary processes.
  • Develop department-wide policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Manage the disposal of agency assets in compliance with federal and state requirements.

Required skills

  • Leadership and management experience in facilities and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of federal and state capital grant programs and compliance.
  • Experience in budget planning and grant fund management.
  • Familiarity with public sector procurement and contract administration.
  • Understanding of facilities and fleet management principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and management information systems.
