Overview

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technicians in the U.S. Navy are responsible for locating, identifying, rendering safe, and disposing of explosive threats across various environments. This role involves the use of advanced robotics, diving techniques, and explosive skills to ensure the safety of military personnel and civilians while supporting global operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Detonate and demolish hazardous munitions, pyrotechnics, and outdated explosives
  • Neutralize ordnance including sea mines, torpedoes, depth charges, and improvised explosive devices
  • Remotely disable unsafe ordnance using robotic and diagnostic technology
  • Conduct parachute and helicopter insertion operations
  • Clear waterways of mines in support of ships and submarines
  • Provide explosive ordnance support to law enforcement agencies
