Overview

The Excavator Operator at E-Z Bel Construction is responsible for operating excavators for various construction tasks such as trenching, grading, and material handling for utility and roadway projects. The operator must adhere to project specifications and safety protocols while ensuring efficient work practices.

Key responsibilities

  • Operate excavators for trenching, grading, backfilling, and material loading
  • Read and follow grade stakes, bluetops, and engineered cut sheets
  • Install bedding materials and manage soil moisture for compaction
  • Follow OSHA-compliant trenching, shoring, and sloping methods
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and report issues
  • Load haul trucks efficiently within capacity limits
  • Assist with rigging and lifting large structures
  • Coordinate with Foreman and crew on excavation sequencing
  • Maintain safe and clean work zones
  • Document daily production and adhere to PPE requirements

Required skills

  • 2-5 years of experience operating excavators
  • Ability to read and interpret grade stakes and survey layouts
  • Knowledge of OSHA trenching and excavation safety
  • Skilled in using multiple excavator attachments
  • Strong understanding of soil classification and compaction
  • Experience with rigging and signaling
