Job Description

Overview

The Estimator at Groom Construction Co Inc will be responsible for estimating commercial and institutional construction projects by effectively reading specifications, drawings, and schedules. The role requires a self-motivated and organized individual who can thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment while working both collaboratively and independently.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and submit proposals, including budgeting and scheduling
  • Manage subcontractor invitation to bid (ITB)
  • Perform scope takeoffs and subcontractor scoping/leveling
  • Conduct project buyout and contracting after project award
  • Maintain knowledge of competitive advantages to aid the bidding process
  • Resolve cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
  • Obtain accurate quotes for materials and systems for cost estimates

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Familiarity with blueprints and reading plans
  • Experience with construction project management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Procore, On-screen Takeoff (OST), and Building Connected
  • 3-5 years of construction experience preferred; willing to train the right candidate
