Overview

The Modesto Irrigation District is seeking an Engineering Technician I for their Electric Engineering Division. This entry-level position involves various technical engineering duties such as drafting, surveying, and field inspections while providing support to the Transmission & Distribution department. The role requires learning and performing tasks under supervision to assist in the management of the district's water and irrigation systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare, maintain, and revise detailed drawings, maps, and schematics using CADD programs
  • Conduct inspections of construction projects by outside contractors
  • Calculate estimates for relocation costs and coordinate construction projects
  • Prepare engineering reports, studies, and job packages
  • Assist with surveying field work for irrigation and electrical construction
  • Perform technical research and engineering calculations
  • Provide technical direction and training for other department personnel
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with co-workers and public

Required skills

  • Knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and terminology
  • Basic drafting, surveying, and estimating techniques
  • Algebra, trigonometry, and geometry knowledge
  • Experience with computer-aided design software (AutoCAD, GIS)
