Overview

The Engineer, Design Mechanical (Compression) at Southern Star is responsible for overseeing and completing engineering aspects of major capital projects related to natural gas facilities. This role includes coordination with project teams and third-party resources, ensuring design quality, and managing tasks such as documentation, equipment sizing, and reporting on budget variances.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee engineering aspects of major capital projects.
  • Supervise internal and external resources for quality assurance.
  • Provide mechanical design deliverables and project construction drawings.
  • Collaborate on contracts and agreements with external customers.
  • Offer technical support for pipeline, storage, and related gas facilities.
  • Review and implement company design standards and specifications.
  • Research technical data and vendor manuals for design feasibility.
  • Serve as a mentor and subject matter expert for natural gas engineering.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 8 years of experience in design engineering or a related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Federal regulations and industry standards.
  • Experience with natural gas pipeline systems and equipment sizing.
  • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
