Overview

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is seeking an Electronics Engineer Group Lead/Technical Manager for its Central Development Laboratory in Charlottesville, Virginia. This role involves managing a team dedicated to the engineering and production of radio frequency receivers for the ALMA telescope, contributing to advanced radio astronomy technology.

Key responsibilities

  • Advise staff on programmatic, technical, and operational matters
  • Manage construction and testing of radio astronomy receivers
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures
  • Develop technical proposals, reports, and papers
  • Conduct tests and analyze data for performance verification
  • Oversee the lifecycle of hardware, software, and firmware

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • At least seven years of experience in electronics hardware, software, or firmware
  • Three years of experience managing a technical group
  • Knowledge of RF and microwave engineering
  • Familiarity with radio astronomy practices and cryogenics
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
