Overview

FIBERTEK, INC. is seeking an experienced Electro-Optical Systems Engineer to join their R&D team in Herndon, Virginia. The role focuses on the development of laser and electro-optic systems for the aerospace sector, contributing to projects for NASA, the Department of Defense, and commercial customers. The engineer will implement systems engineering processes and manage technical risks to ensure successful project execution.

Key responsibilities

  • Work in cross-functional teams to develop new technologies and laser systems
  • Oversee product development, including review and approval of system and subsystem requirements
  • Prepare Systems Engineering Master Plans (SEMP) and technical documentation
  • Track compliance and verification of requirements through the design, assembly, integration, and test phases
  • Manage requirements baselines and ensure traceability
  • Perform technology assessments and conduct risk assessments
  • Develop and support test processes, equipment designs, and system integration
  • Assist in bid and proposal efforts and new business development

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, systems engineering, or optics; master's preferred
  • 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in systems engineering
  • Experience with requirements development, test planning, and systems integration
  • Proficiency in systems engineering and requirements management software tools
  • Strong communication skills for technical reporting
  • Experience with space-based, electro-optical hardware is a plus
  • U.S. citizenship required; Secret or Top Secret Clearance preferred
