Overview

Carter Machinery is seeking an Electric Power Generation (EPG) Field Technician to join their team in Elkridge, Maryland. The role involves troubleshooting and repairing generator sets, performing maintenance, and ensuring proper functioning of power generation equipment while promoting a safe working environment. Key responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose operational failures of generator sets and related equipment
  • Use medium voltage and reactive load bank equipment for testing and repairs
  • Perform megger, vibration, stack, and span gas testing
  • Install and commission large genset units with complex ATS
  • Conduct heavy electrical repairs and engine overhauls
  • Determine corrective action through inspection of failed parts
  • Order replacement parts efficiently
  • Document work and repairs in service reports
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required skills

  • Minimum three years' experience in electrical power generation or electronics field
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing generator systems
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Excellent troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in technical software and databases
  • Willingness to travel and work additional hours as needed
