Overview

The EH&S Specialist - Regulatory at SM-Energy Company is tasked with supporting the development and maintenance of drill-ready permits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements in the Oil & Gas industry. This position plays a vital role in the permitting lifecycle by conducting pre-development coordination, managing documentation, and monitoring compliance with regulations.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate deliverables and submit ECMC Form 2 applications for new oil and gas locations
  • Process permit amendments using ECMC Form 4, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Lead pre-development meetings with internal teams to align planning efforts
  • Maintain Best Management Practices (BMPs) and Conditions of Approval (COAs) in tracking systems
  • Monitor and distribute notifications related to pre-production operations
  • Track permit status and maintain accurate permit data and documentation
  • Stay updated on changes to permitting regulations and guide internal stakeholders

Required skills

  • In-depth understanding of oil and gas permitting and compliance processes
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and safety standards
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws and agencies
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to record maintenance
  • Adaptability under pressure
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
  • Knowledge of industry-specific software such as IMS, ISNetworld, Wellview, and Spotfire
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of experience in permitting and compliance programs
