Job Description

Overview

Raytheon is seeking an Effector Power Principal Design Engineer for its Effector Analog & Power Team in Los Angeles, California. The role involves designing, analyzing, and testing power conversion and related analog circuitry, focusing on board-mounted applications. The engineer will lead teams through the entire design process, from requirements to integration testing, while also mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, simulate, test, and document power conversion circuitry.
  • Lead large teams and define schedules and tasks for design projects.
  • Guide junior engineers and ECAD drafters through layout and routing activities.
  • Engage in personal technical growth and facilitate growth in peers.
  • Conduct trade studies related to power electronics architecture.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 8 years of relevant experience in design, analysis, and simulation of power electronics
  • Experience with linear and non-isolated converter topologies (buck, boost, etc.)
  • Experience with isolated converter topologies (flyback, halfbridge, etc.)
  • Proficiency in using MATLAB, MathCAD, and similar tools
  • Experience in EMI filter design and transformer or inductor design
  • Ability to create and utilize electrical design specifications
  • Experience leading teams and managing customer relationships
  • Familiarity with switching converter control techniques
  • Experience with Texas Instruments C-2000 microcontrollers and communication protocols (CAN-bus, UART, RS-422)
