Job Description

Overview

As an Early Head Start Teacher at The Y of Central Maryland, you will manage an Early Head Start classroom, ensuring the health and safety of enrolled children while implementing individualized lesson plans that support their development. You will work in a mission-driven organization dedicated to community well-being and nurturing relationships with children and families.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage classroom in accordance with COMAR Child Care Regulations and Head Start Performance Standards
  • Ensure health, welfare, and safety of children
  • Maintain appropriate adult/child ratios for quality care
  • Implement individualized daily lesson plans for infants and toddlers
  • Conduct observations and assessments to measure growth and development
  • Involve parents and staff in daily lesson plans and activities
  • Plan and manage classroom structure, including schedules and routines
  • Conduct developmental screenings within 45 days of enrollment
  • Prepare and conduct home visits and parent-teacher conferences
  • Recruit and train parent volunteers
  • Monitor classroom supplies and submit orders as needed
  • Maintain a clean and appealing classroom environment
  • Attend and participate in relevant training and meetings

Required skills

  • Education and experience in Child Development and Early Childhood Education
  • Knowledge of Classroom Management and Curriculum Development
  • Observation Skills and ability to conduct assessments
  • Communication Skills and Team Collaboration
  • Experience with data entry
  • Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification
