Overview

As a Driver Trainee at McLane Company, you will learn the foundational skills necessary for a successful career as a commercial driver. This position includes comprehensive training to ensure safe and efficient product delivery to customers, all while being part of a supportive team environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Train alongside a Driver Trainer to acquire essential driving skills.
  • Maneuver tractor to attach trailers and secure loads.
  • Operate truck in compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Inspect tractor-trailer equipment before and after trips.
  • Document delivery receipts and product conditions using Driver Delivery Handheld (DDH).
  • Maintain driver logs according to DOT regulations.
  • Assist in unloading and delivering products.
  • Gain knowledge of commercial driving regulations through observation.

Required skills

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • CDL-A Permit required
  • Ability to complete training and obtain Class A CDL
  • Basic mathematical skills for product verification
  • Effective communication skills
  • Experience with safety compliance and vehicle operation
