Overview

The Driver, Trainee Component position at McLane Company, Inc. is designed for individuals starting their CDL-A career. Trainees will learn essential driving functions including the distribution of products to customer locations while gaining exposure to operational aspects of the logistics process. This role emphasizes safety and compliance, supporting the company’s commitment to reliable service for America’s favorite brands.

Key responsibilities

  • Maneuver tractor to attach trailers and handle lines for security
  • Operate trucks safely in compliance with regulations and company policies
  • Inspect tractor-trailer equipment pre/post trip and submit DOT inspection reports
  • Document delivery receipts, product temperatures, and exceptions using handheld devices
  • Train with a Driver Trainer at various destinations to learn commercial driving regulations
  • Maintain driver logs according to DOT regulations
  • Assist Driver in unloading and delivering products to customer premises
  • Provide customer service with on-time deliveries and managing product returns

Required skills

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Class A CDL
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Ability to load/unload and deliver products
  • Basic mathematical skills for quantity verification
  • Effective communication skills in English
  • Ability to safely drive a tractor-trailer and use necessary equipment
