Job Description

Overview

JAG Marine Group is seeking a Dockmaster to join their Ketchikan, Alaska shipyard. This role involves ensuring the efficient and safe docking of marine vessels and supervising associated operations, overseeing a team, and coordinating with various stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

  • Calculate and submit necessary docking documents including plans and stability information
  • Plan, schedule, supervise and coordinate docking and undocking of vessels
  • Assume responsibility for vessel, ship lift, and personnel during drydocking operations
  • Monitor vessel movements and secure safe berthing
  • Direct supervision of Dry Dock Rigging crew and crane operations
  • Coordinate with production for optimal blocking design
  • Maintain inventory of blocking materials and specialized equipment
  • Schedule and supervise inspections of the Shiplift and infrastructure
  • Manage docking schedule to optimize vessel movements
  • Ensure dry dock operations comply with environmental policies
  • Utilize CAD for docking layouts and plans
  • Conduct safety briefings prior to operations
  • Manage and mentor a team of 15-20 employees

Required skills

  • 5 years of experience as a Dock Master at a Shipyard
  • 5 years of experience with drydocking
  • 1 year of experience with Syncrolift (preferred)
  • Knowledge of maritime operations and safety management
  • Skills in scheduling and team coordination
  • Crane operation experience
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain compliance with regulations
