Overview

As a Director of Software Engineering at Capital One Canada, you will lead engineering teams to enhance foundational technology capabilities for customer-facing web and mobile applications. This role focuses on developing highly-available RESTful microservices and systems on AWS, fostering a collaborative culture, and driving innovation in the financial services industry.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and grow talented engineers to develop engineering capabilities.
  • Mentor engineers on technical and professional development.
  • Build a culture focused on accountability and excellence.
  • Engage with stakeholders to define strategic goals and execute product roadmaps.
  • Work with agile teams to design, develop, and support full-stack technical solutions.
  • Stay updated on tech trends and experiment with new technologies.
  • Encourage innovation, diversity, and out-of-the-box thinking.
  • Collaborate with leaders to architect enterprise platforms.

Required skills

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in people management
  • 3+ years of experience leading multiple agile teams
  • 1+ year of experience managing other managers
  • Experience in best practices for software engineering teams
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering (preferred)
  • 13+ years of experience in software development (preferred)
  • 8+ years of experience in Agile practices (preferred)
  • Experience with configuration management and infrastructure automation tools
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience leading DevOps/Developer tooling teams
