Overview

The Director of Software Engineering at Capital One Canada will lead teams to advance the Engineering organization's mission, focusing on foundational technology capabilities for customer-facing applications. This role involves managing highly-available RESTful microservices and real-time systems within a progressive cloud environment, requiring both technical expertise and strong leadership skills.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and grow talented engineers in building advanced engineering capabilities
  • Mentor and guide the professional development of engineering staff
  • Build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Foster a psychologically safe environment across teams
  • Engage with stakeholders to define strategies and execute roadmaps
  • Design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across teams
  • Stay updated with tech trends and participate in technology communities
  • Encourage innovation and diversity while leveraging cutting-edge technologies
  • Partner with leaders to architect enterprise platforms and applications

Required skills

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in people management
  • 3+ years of experience in an agile environment
  • Experience managing managers including team building and performance management
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering (preferred)
  • Experience with agile practices and deployment processes
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience in configuration management and infrastructure automation
  • Experience leading DevOps or developer tooling teams
