Overview

The Director of the Academic Resource Center at Whitman College is responsible for leading the development and improvement of student support services, including tutoring and academic coaching. This role involves collaborating with faculty and staff to enhance student success and retention, managing staff and budgets, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for the Academic Resource Center (ARC)
  • Develop and offer success-focused programs, personalized coaching, and tutoring assistance
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance student engagement and success
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise full- and part-time staff
  • Manage annual program budgets and monitor expenditures
  • Conduct assessments and provide data-driven recommendations for service effectiveness
  • Ensure compliance with federal and college regulations regarding student privacy and confidentiality

Required skills

  • Master's degree in education or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in higher education or student support services
  • Knowledge of academic support services and student privacy laws
  • Experience in staff management and organization
  • Ability to use data management tools like Excel
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
