Overview

The Director of Professional Development at Capitol Recruiters Inc. will lead initiatives to enhance the development, retention, and promotion of associate lawyers in their Washington DC office and across the firm. This role involves building relationships, implementing evaluation processes, and developing training programs while providing coaching to junior attorneys.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop initiatives to advance associate development and retention
  • Build trust and professional relationships with associates
  • Oversee firmwide associate evaluation processes
  • Contribute to Senior Associate Evaluation Process
  • Meet with senior lawyers to discuss associate and counsel pipeline
  • Work with practice groups for performance management
  • Identify development gaps and propose solutions
  • Recommend developmental trainings/resources
  • Collaborate on secondment opportunities for associates
  • Support stakeholders with data and development recommendations
  • Guide attorneys on career growth and navigating firm resources
  • Develop training programs for career planning and mentoring
  • Implement metrics and reporting systems for career development programs
  • Manage junior members of the Professional Development team
  • Lead multi-office professional development projects

Required skills

  • 10+ years of career development experience
  • Experience in legal, consulting, or professional services organizations
  • Knowledge of best practices in professional development
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or J.D. preferred
