Overview

The Director of Pharmacy at Optum will oversee all pharmacy operations within a hospital setting, ensuring alignment with clinical, quality, and financial goals. This role involves strategic leadership, promoting medication safety, regulatory compliance, and implementing cost-containment initiatives while managing a team of pharmacy professionals.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for pharmacy services in the hospital
  • Ensure safe and evidence-based medication use and oversee clinical pharmacy practice
  • Lead and develop pharmacy leadership and staff, including accountability for managers and technicians
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and legal requirements
  • Oversee pharmacy financial performance, budgeting, and cost-containment initiatives
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and interdisciplinary stakeholders for patient care
  • Drive innovation and performance improvement using data and technology

Required skills

  • BS or PharmD from an accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Current Colorado Pharmacist license in good standing
  • Experience with MS Office, pharmacy information systems, and automated dispensing systems
  • Ability to work independently and make critical decisions
  • Demonstrated accuracy and timeliness in a work setting
  • Experience in an inpatient hospital environment (preferred)
  • Demonstrated teaching and involvement with professional organizations (preferred)
