Overview

The Director of Network and Unified Communications will lead the strategy and operational excellence for a large defense technology company based in Melbourne, FL. This role requires extensive experience in aerospace, defense, or manufacturing sectors, focusing on enterprise networking and unified communications to ensure seamless IT connectivity across diverse systems and technologies.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the enterprise Network & Unified Communications strategy
  • Lead modernization initiatives including SD-WAN and VoIP/UC optimization
  • Establish a roadmap for reliability and secure workload placement
  • Oversee design, deployment, and operations of global network services
  • Drive proactive monitoring and engineering standards to improve service stability
  • Manage end-to-end service management in partnership with service delivery teams
  • Own the enterprise UC strategy including VoIP and video collaboration tools
  • Modernize legacy telecom environments towards cloud-aligned platforms
  • Lead a global team of network and telecom professionals
  • Manage strategic partners and ensure SLA performance
  • Drive workforce planning and talent development for a modern network
  • Collaborate with Cybersecurity to ensure compliance with security principles
  • Ensure proper documentation and audit readiness

Required skills

  • 15+ years of relevant experience (or 13 with Master's, 19 without degree)
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or manufacturing within Fortune 1000 companies
  • Expertise in enterprise networking (LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, VPN, etc.)
  • Strong experience with unified communications, VoIP, SIP, and video conferencing
  • Track record in large-scale network modernization and cloud connectivity
  • Experience in highly regulated environments (DoD, aerospace/defense)
  • Relevant certifications: CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE, CWNP, ITIL, PMP
  • Experience implementing Zero Trust-aligned core network services
  • Integration experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Strong business acumen with technical requirement translation skills
  • Ability to influence across diverse business units and technology domains
